Minama Couture Unveils Luxury Collection Paying Tribute to Arabian and Traditional Elements of Style

As the Holy Month unfolds, Minama Couture has unveiled an exquisite capsule collection. According to their brand brief, the collection is inspired by the rich Arabian cultural heritage with a spotlight on stunning Arabian styles from Morocco, Oman, and more.

“Our dresses epitomize the timeless charm and allure of Arabian fashion, blending traditional elements with contemporary designs to create pieces that exude class and allure. Each dress in our collection is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted using sumptuous fabrics, intricate design, and ornate embellishments, reflecting the richness and splendor of Arabian aesthetics,” says Mrs. Afsana Pey SK, the creative director of the brand.

The Minama brand is not new in Kampala, as they’ve had a stint as a successful skincare brand. “Minama embodies the seamless fusion of beauty and fashion, where each complements the other in a harmonious blend,” she explained.

Modeled by a diverse set of models including Cameroonian star Marie-Noelle Graobe, the collection features flowing kaftans adorned with unique patterns and intricately embroidered jellabas embellished with shimmering sequins and beads. “Our dresses are designed to make a statement and leave a lasting impression. Whether you’re attending a glamorous soirée or a romantic dinner under the stars, our dresses will elevate your style,” she explains.

In an exclusive interview with Satisfashion UG, Mrs. Afsana Pey SK explained the thinking behind the brand.

Can you share with us the inspiration behind Minama Couture’s new luxury collection?

My passion for clothing design was sparked at a young age, influenced greatly by my mother, who was also a fashion designer. Attending her shows and witnessing her creative process ignited a deep love for the craft within me. As I grew, I found joy and solace in sketching and conceptualizing my own designs. I remember a time when she was asked to design something out of backcloth, for a contest and in spite of her being of Arabian descent, she was able to pull this off. She emerged number 3 at this competition and that was a huge milestone in her career. She went on to open a shop on Kampala Road, and I remember the famous princess of Tooro, Elizabeth Bagaya walking into her shop for measurements.  i did not know who she was at the time, but I definitely bragged to my friends about this famous visit to my mum’s shop for a long time.

What specific elements of Arabian culture and fashion influenced the design of your latest collection?

Having spent time in Muscat, Oman, and experiencing the richness of Arabian culture firsthand, I was inspired by traditional garments like Dishdasha, Sarwal, and the elegant Lahaf Omaniya. These cultural treasures, worn during special occasions, left a lasting impression on me and serve as the foundation of my latest collection.

How do you balance traditional Arabian aesthetics with contemporary design in your dresses?

Arabian dresses, particularly the timeless Omaniya, offer a perfect blend of tradition and elegance. My designs pay homage to these classics while infusing contemporary elements, ensuring versatility and sophistication suitable for any occasion.

Could you walk us through some standout pieces from the collection and the story behind their creation?

One of the highlights of our collection is the Velvet series, a true masterpiece characterized by its intricate hand-beaded embellishments and luxurious fabric. Inspired by ancient designs, each piece tells a story of heritage and refinement, resonating with discerning fashion enthusiasts.

What materials and techniques did you prioritize when crafting these garments to ensure both quality and sustainability?

Prioritizing sustainability, we have meticulously selected organic cotton and Crepe de chine, renowned for their comfort, durability, and eco-friendly properties. Additionally, incorporating traditional Omaniya elements adds a timeless allure to our creations.

How do you envision women incorporating Minama Couture’s dresses into their wardrobes for various occasions?

Our dresses offer a seamless transition from day to night, exuding sophistication and elegance. Whether it’s a formal event or a casual outing, Minama Couture empowers women to express their unique style with confidence and grace.
