For years, Uganda has struggled to make its mark on the international modeling scene. In the early 2000’s many Ugandan models tried their luck, only to fade away into oblivion. But, that’s all in the past now. After Aamito’s triumphant debut on Africa’s Next top model and her eventual success on the international scene, a way was paved for other models from this part of the world to get noticed.
Away from Aamito and Patricia Akello who are doing really well on the international ramps, there’s a new breed of young models setting runways on fire in South Africa. The recently held AFI Cape Town fashion week had Ugandans stars Patricia Laloyo, Paul Mwesigwa, Aketch Winnie Joy and Anyon Susan put on stellar performances, making us here at home very proud. Mwesigwa is signed to 2o Model Management while the other models are with Fusion Cape Town.
If Uganda isn’t the future, I don’t know what else this means.
