Thanks to Satisfashion UG and Enrole Model Management‘s ‘The Next Fitness Supermodel Search’, a new star is here. Meet Philips Clinton Ihakonye who is now signed to Enrole Model Management. The 22-year-old Office Technology Management student at
Yaba College of Technology Nigeria’s future in fashion as a model is now brighter. We caught up with him to discuss his future, interests and how life has changed since winning the search.
How did you feel about winning ‘The Next Fitness Supermodel Search’?
I was overjoyed and felt really lucky. It gave me the courage to work even harder. Modeling isn’t a bed of roses, especially here in Nigeria, so winning the search was a boost for me considering that all these people went out of their way to vote for me.
And, signing with Enrole Model Management?
This is a big step in my career. Signing with a renowned modeling agency means that I can now work with professionals to shape my career, reduce the stress of doing it all on my own and also have access to expert training. I’m really excited, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
How did you develop an interest in modeling?
Interestingly, I’ve always wanted to be model since I was a child. I remember as a kid, I would practice walking on the runway with my mum. She loved fashion as well. When I got older, people would ask me if I was a model. At church, on the street and basically everywhere. I still paid no attention to them.
Then one day at work, my colleague said the same to me. This time though, he went ahead to share how he thought I had the potential to make it as a model. I was open to him that I didn’t know where to start from. He was kind enough to connect me with a model friend of his who invited me for training. I loved it right away, and before I knew it I was going for castings and walking at runway shows.
How long have you been doing this?
I started in 2015. So, that’s 3 years.
What are some of the runway shows you’ve done?
My first show was the West African Fashion Show. I’ve also done African Fashion Week Nigeria, Catwalk in ICM and Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria where I walked for Ugandan designer Kai’s Divo Collection.
Who is your role model?
Will Smith is my role model. It’s funny because he’s not a runway model, but I like his personality.
So, do you have a favourite model?
Tyson Beckford, Naomi Campbell, and my girl Mayowa Nicholas.
What are your hobbies?
Creating footwear, listening to music, sharing ideas, motivational speaking, working out, dancing and helping etc
What do you hope to accomplish as a model?
Being an icon and role model to many, and impacting the modeling industry in my country. I’m so indebted to you guys for giving me this opportunity and promise to make you so proud. Thank you!
