By  |

In a YouTube QnA, Manuella Mulondo shares a few answers to questions asked by her fans about her work and business side of life. And below are some of the questions she managed to answer.

How have you transitioned between doing YouTube and sharing a part of yourself?

One of the tricks that I would advise anyone trying to get into YouTube or social media life is to learn to be publicly private. I allow you to see what other people in my life see. There are a lot of things in my life that you don’t know.

How can one develop a business mind and attitude?

You can either have a business mind or not. I don’t believe everyone should develop a business mind. If you don’t have a business mind, it’s okay. You don’t have a different path. Not all of us have the same path.

How can one start a side hustle?

I believe starting a side hustle is because you have a job, and you’re starting a side hustle. If you are starting a side hustle, start a side hustle that you like to do or that you know will give you money, but as an individual, you’re not available to do the work.

If that’s the case, you should be starting a side hustle that someone else can run because you won’t be there, but you can also start a side hustle doing very small things. When I was on campus, I used to do a lot of things like selling my clothes my jewellery, and if someone told me they liked something I was wearing, I could sell it to them. And that became my side hustle.

What business can I start with five million in Uganda?

I saw this question, and someone else asked for one million shillings. The truth is that there are so many businesses like jewellery shops, hair companies, and drop shipping with money as low as 100 US dollars. Here in Uganda, businesses like chapatti stores and market stores make a lot of money. If you are actually good at plaiting hair, you can actually start with zero.

I found a document that shows businesses that you can start with as little as 300 US dollars, and I will share it with you.

How do you cope with work stress?

I get what’s stressing me the most, and I find a solution. I work from the most stressful to the least stressful. For example, if it were your boss stressing you out, I would go and learn how to manage upwards. That used to happen to me when I was working at the bank. My boss used to stress me out, so one of the courses I did was by Harvard Management, and one of the course units was “Managing Upwards.” Guys, the day I did that course, I and my boss became the best of friends. Find whatever it is that’s stressing you about your work and find a solution to it, because most of the time, work stress is caused by a lot of things, and solve them one by one.

How did you know for certain that CIM, rather than MBA, would be beneficial to you?

The world is constantly changing, and an MBA would have been as good as a CIM or CIPR. I decided to take CIM because it was very current recent, and it had most of the things organizations were looking for, plus it was very practical. So the MBA and stuff, I realized it had a lot of theory, but in my mind, I do know I have to do an MBA, and I want to go all the way for a PHD, so wish me luck.

Fifteen years of experience with children, 5 in marketing. How do you do it?

I have now got 15 years experience, which should be like 20 years experience with children and 10 with marketing (laughs). This is because I have always worked with children in the background, and then marketing is something that I am passionate about. Children play a role in my mission, and marketing is my passion. I have always shared with you guys that planning my time out has really helped me. I actually have a business that works with children and a business in marketing. So I have to find a way between the two.

I’m on my Form Six vacation. I want to start a small business to help me grow financially in my 20’s. Any tips?

The truth is that for the whole of last year, from January, February, March, and April, I was advising on business to anyone. Please go under my WORK playlist and watch. I explained everything and shared all my tips on starting a business.

What entrepreneurship advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

Mmh! My 20-year old self, I think I shared my lessons, the lessons I learnt, and that’s the advice I would give myself. But most importantly, the advice that I would drum into my 20-year old self is that systems, coaching, and financial management are very important. And I believe if you get a good coach, they should help you with systems and financial management. Those are the three things I would tell my 20-year old self.

I’m from Kigali. You have accomplished a lot. How have you managed to achieve this at that age?

When someone tells me I have accomplished so much, I ask myself, have I? There are things in my heart that I would like to achieve. There is so much more, but I think never thinking that I have arrived has helped me because then I am always hungry. I am hungry to do more and partner with people to get those things that I need to get done. I think partnering with other people has helped a lot. Being able to ask people for help and work with people has also helped because they carry half the burden of anything that I have achieved most of the time. Because they carry half the burden, and I also do, I think that has also helped…
