Let’s Talk Bouquets, Shall We?

By  |

This is an accessory that makes a bride’s gown complete. Nothing would happen if you didn’t hold one but why not when you can look at lots of options. Not every woman loves flowers, but very many women love them and besides receiving them as gifts, they would love them to compliment the bridal look.

The bridal bouquet is an essential part of a modern bride’s outfit, whether it be a lavish affair or a simple wedding. It is true that flowers add visual beauty and a touch of romance to a wedding, but there are deeper reasons for their presence.

In Ancient Rome, brides carried or wore flower garlands, believing that flowers signify new beginnings, fidelity and hope of fertility.

In Victorian times, lovers often sent different flowers as a way of expressing their love. Each flower had a different meaning, and their exchange soon became popular and was linked to romantic love.

However, in modern times, charming as they may have seemed, the old traditions have been almost forgotten, with brides now selecting flowers for the beauty of their colours, fragrance and shape. While some brides (those that don’t love flowers) carry them just because it’s the tradition/trend.

I however believe the bloom you carry on your day should represent you. It should be flowers you love besides just being an accessory or fashion statement or an essential addition to the gown. That also means, you should pay attention to the bouquets your entourage carry.

Let’s look at some options:

Corsage

If you’re a bride that doesn’t exactly love flowers but must also make a statement as well as have something to compliment your gown, the Corsage could be a perfect pick. Wear it around your wrist in a colour that will pop out perfectly.

This can also be worn by the bridesmaids. Let them wear it on the strap (if the dress design allows) better still, the wrist is a perfect place. If you have groomsmen on the team then the boutonniere will come handy.

Paper Bouquet

Well you don’t always have to have to buy flowers if you can a find an artistic person to cut and fold one perfectly for you. Advantage it has on a fresh bouquet is that it won’t wither as the day goes by.

Cascade

These really look beautiful on a bride with less accessories and a gown that isn’t dramatic because they already have enough drama. You can go for the fresh flowers or artificial ones. Whichever will give you comfort and also fit into your look.

Wreath /Garland

These are easy to carry if you have little girls on the team. They could wear them as garlands on the hair while the older ones can hold them.

Cloth Rose Bouquet

Besides the fact that they could get dirty easily, they won’t wither and you can get to keep your bouquet for a long while. These are very common lately; many brides opt for them as opposed to the traditional fresh flower bouquet.

Metallic Bouquet

This is composed of all types of jewellery (metallic) many times it will include, pearls, broches, buttons, hairpins are added to add to its beauty. However, you can find all coloured Jewellery to give it the pop you would desire or simply keep it Gold or Silver.
