Jinny Kaitesi Celebrates Her First Journey to Motherhood!

By  |

Angie of Pink Coconut Decor and Daville Photography came together to celebrate the joys of two expectant mothers, Jinny and Norah, with a stunning photo shoot. In the first installment of this story, we bring you Jinny Kaitesi, who is expecting her first child.

Jinny’s story

I recently joined Pink Coconut to do customer care and quality assurance. My nickname at work is “consultant”. Originally, I wasn’t going to have a photo shoot. Then one day Angie, the Pink Coconut boss just comes to me with a concept and asked us for dates when we would be available to do the shoot. Together with Sarah, who directed the shoot in her absence, they instructed us to get ready because it was happening. At first, I was lethargic. I even got sick a week before and couldn’t get to the tailor I had wanted to use because of time. When I got better, I contacted my friend Nina of Free Spirit who I could easily bully to come up with dresses in  two days and she accepted. Luck was on my side. I’m thankful to my friend Claret for being patient and doing the makeup under so much pressure!

I was excited because it’s my first baby. I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to meet them. Funny it’s going to be the 9th grandchild for mom but the love and support has been so overwhelming! It’s unbelievable! There’s so much love. I’m so glad I accepted to do this because now we are in lock down. You can’t even have the luxury of spoiling yourselves to cravings or spending the afternoon in the spa just raising your feet and being pampered.

Also, this photo shoot is a representation of the bond between my niece Mona and I. We can’t wait for the prince/princess coming to join our circle. We are ready to take on the world. I’m very thankful for my family and spouse who’ve been there and supported me. And of course the big man up there! Nothing would have gone right without God.

Angie Kemi-Omeke, the founder & creative head of Pink Coconut Decor, a renown luxury event planner, shares her inspiration and theme of the shoot.

I see a close correlation between maternity and flowers. They come with a lot gentleness. After the flowers, we also added candles, because of their tendency to be symbolic of the following of light. This can also be the following of a dream or legacy. In this case it is the following of a generation of women. So, we lit the candles.

Then we when went to the balloon room. Here we tried to create a theme of fun, softness, gentleness and fragility. These are all the things that are depicted by the nature of a balloon. When we got to the bathtub, we had all these soft bubbles, you know bubbles don’t last forever, just to bring to life the delicateness of being an expectant mother. We have the blooms coming through and candles.

The fact that we managed to interlace family members into the shoot, was also symbolic. It’s not just the bump. We did this to show that it takes a village to bring a new being to life, it takes a family to raise a child. This young person, friend or relative who is in the shoot is part and parcel of  this new child’s journey.

Her relationship with the expectant mothers

I’ve known Norah for very many years. I met her through a friend of mine called Sarah Kironde, the production director of this shoot. I met Jinny two years ago, once again through Sarah. Together we created a group that’s inclusive of Daville, the photographer. I created this group because I realized that I had gotten to a point where; you know when you are so good at your game everybody just keeps saying only the nicest things about you. I wanted to be in a place where I could get critiqued. Hence the formation of this group. We are amongst the top service providers in this field. But, because we didn’t start off using social media, we felt a little left behind. So, I sat down with the ladies and Daville, we see if we could do something different from what everyone else is doing.

Norah had been praying for a baby. Then all of a sudden, in the same year, Jinny is expecting a child. Norah is expecting a child. And, Daville’s wife is also expecting a baby. Since the latter wasn’t part of the core team, we decided that we would do something for her afterwards.

The concept

These two girls are the same, but so different. So, I came up with three different concepts that portrayed who they are. We went with; the glam, the sexy and the playful. These are three concepts which embody who they are.
