It Was Love at First Sight for Juliana and Nelson
Research has shown that people tend to decide whether they are romantically interested in a person within seconds of meeting them, and that near-instantaneous decision is what happened to Nelson when met Juliana. The couple tied the knot on 21st August, 2021. Here’s their story.
Bride: Nalubanga Juliana Angella, a Finance & admin officer at WAMU SACCO, SOS Children’s Villages.
Groom: Sengendo Nelson, a Senior IT specialist at Infectious Diseases Institute-Mulago.
Venue: Namirembe Cathedral Hotel
Reception: Silver springs hotel-Bugolobi
Wedding date: 21/08/2021
Meeting
J: Nelson and I met in 2014 at an MTN staff cocktail party at Kampala Serena hotel. He worked in the IT department while I was a contact centre advisor. This party brought the entire MTN workforce together as we were bidding farewell to our then CEO Mazen Mroué. At a distance, I could see him stare at me with his colleague Gasana Moses🤣.
N: Juliana wore a beautiful animal print dress. She also danced nicely to the tunes that were playing at the party. I was struck by her eyes and beautiful smile. This was like a turning point for me because I instantly could tell that she was the one. I then walked up to her and made my intentions known😂😂.
Unfortunately, my phone had blacked out so I had to cram her phone number, which she was generous to share when I approached her. We went on a date a few days later and the rest is history.
Engagement
We got engaged on 15/02/2020. A friend of mine, Maureen Marunga Tumwesigye, who also doubled as my M.O.H, invited me for her husband’s alleged birthday dinner at Golf Course Hotel. I guess this had been planned with Nelie and trust me it worked, I was caught off guard.
It was by surprise that when we got there, I saw Nelie at a distance walking towards us with a bouquet of flowers in hand. That’s when it struck that I was actually getting engaged. He bent on one knee, in the presence of a few family and friends, and asked for my hand in marriage which I agreed to.
It was all happiness and as long as I can recall, I was overwhelmed with joy and almost didn’t sleep that night.
Wedding
Wedding preparations started immediately after the engagement with the first visit a.k.a kukyala on 01/03/2020. I introduced Nelson to my parents on 26/09/2020.
Now, the wedding preparations didn’t come through that easily because of the obvious reasons of COVID-19. As we drew closer (just 2 weeks), to our big day which was initially 03/07/2021, a lockdown was put in place. We had to push our wedding to 21/08/2021 and cut the guest list from 300 to 100. This was the hardest bit of the planning process I must say.
We received a lot of support from friends and family. Coupled with our savings, we bless the Lord that we did not have any financial stress. Thank you guys, May the almighty reward you a thousand fold. We had a planning committee that helped us manage our service providers and ensured they delivered. Thumbs up to Ivan, Justine et al. You guys did a good job.
Most of our service providers were recommendations from friends who had worked with them before. They all delivered to our expectations and saved us the wedding day disappointments. We loved every bit of our wedding day.
