I Gave Up Sugar, And This is What Happened

By  |

Four months ago I started a journey, one that’s not for the faint of heart. I told myself I was going to quit sugar but didn’t know how hard it would be although I was aware of the health benefits of what I was getting myself into.

If you’re a health conscious person, who loves to live a healthy lifestyle, I’m sure you watch your sugar intake very much. But, have you ever considered giving it up completely? I did, and this is what happened.

QUITTING SUGAR?

Fact is, sugar isn’t a necessary nutrient. In fact, science recommends that men shouldn’t take more than 9 teaspoons (150 calories) of added sugar a day. Women should eat no more than 6 teaspoons (100 calories). The body can take in so much, especially considering that almost all the food we eat is filled with natural sugars.

It’s hard enough to ignore something that’s not there but sugar is always going to be in your face, when you go out with your friends, in your fridge and at the supermarket. It’s packaged in all sorts of way; from sodas, to cakes and more. So, this isn’t an easy ride to take.

However, four months into it, I’m already noticing a lot. Here’s some of it

  • I’m quite lean, thankfully, and I’ve always wanted to maintain this frame. This hasn’t been so hard with my regimen, no gym or anything else involved. With just a few pushups I do at home in, I can confidently say that I’m fit.
  • My emotional Stability has greatly improved. Sugar tends to pop your adrenalin levels putting a lot of emotions at display.  My emotional wellbeing has been kept at bay, and trust me it’s getting better every other day.
  • Glowing skin. My skin is having its best time ever as well.
  • Memory boost and attention. I’ve seen my concentration levels rise immensely after ignoring sugar. I get tired quite less than I used to. In the past, it was so hard for me to watch a full movie without pausing a little to take a nap. This isn’t happening anymore.
  • I’m confident that there’s more for me in the coming more months.
