How to Get the Most Out of Your Beauty Sleep
Makeup and skincare continues to be a priority for women all over the world as a survey has revealed that the average woman uses 16 beauty products every single day. With the popularity of multi-step skincare routines and YouTube makeup tutorials, it’s evident that many are spending more time and money to look their best. But sometimes, even the most dedicated may choose to throw their skincare routine out the window and opt for the basic soap-and-water routine before hitting the sack. If you’re constantly trying to find ways to cut down on your pre-bedtime beauty routine yet still wake up looking fresh and glowing, here are a few tricks to get gorgeous while you sleep.
Clean up for zero breakouts
It happens to the best of us—perhaps you’ve had a really stressful day, or you’ve had a few drinks after work. The last thing you probably want to do is wash your face once you get home. However, sleeping in your makeup can cause clogged pores, which eventually leads to breakouts. To prevent this from happening, always keep some micellar water and cotton rounds or a packet of makeup remover wipes by your bed. This way, even if you don’t feel like washing up, you can still take off your makeup and go to sleep with a clean face. Alternatively, you could use cold cream to cleanse your face. This old-time fave is great if you don’t want to moisturize after cleansing. Just use a bit of cold cream, massage onto your face, then wipe off with a tissue.
Switch out your pillowcase
Having adequate sleep can benefit your looks, so having the right bedding is a must for better sleep. However, did you know that having the right pillowcase can also be a game changer for your beauty routine? If you want to wake up with no crease marks on your face and gorgeous hair, then replace your pillowcase with one that’s made of silk. Curly haired girls will especially benefit from this as the smooth fabric won’t ruin your curl pattern, even if you toss and turn at night. Moreover, if you’re a side sleeper, using a silk pillowcase eliminates the chances of crease marks, puffiness, and redness, so you wake up with smooth, glowing skin.
Hydrate while you sleep
Too lazy to spend 30 minutes massaging serums, moisturizers, and essences into your skin before bedtime? No worries, you can still get glowing skin by using an overnight face mask. This type of skincare product is usually thicker and richer than a moisturizer and it’s formulated to deliver hydration overnight. The Body Shop and Fresh each have overnight masks, as well as K-beauty brands Laneige and Glow Recipe. To use, apply a thin, even layer, then lay back, relax, and have a good night’s sleep.
Pamper your pout
A slick of lip balm before bedtime moisturizes your lips and keeps your pout in prime condition, so keep a tube nearby. Pick a formula that’s not too sticky so you don’t end up smearing it all over your pillowcase while you sleep. If you want to wake up looking extra pretty, you may want to opt for a tinted lip balm—something in a light pink or apricot tint will do. Skip formulas that contain sparkles, and keep it natural for a fresh look.
Maintaining a skincare routine takes some time, so for those nights when you need a break, try these shortcuts to get gorgeous while you sleep. You’ll wake up looking radiant and energized, ready for another day of work or play.
