How Recho Ray is Becoming the Most Stylish Female Rapper in Uganda
Female rappers are usually bold, brilliant and sharp-tongued, one of the many reasons we fall in love with them almost immediately. Their style sense is however never as enthralling. If it’s not bland and boring, it is gender-neutral, a more fashionable term to describe ‘tomboyish style’.
We however can’t say the same for Iggy Azalea, Cardi B and our own, Ugandan rapper Recho Ray who aren’t afraid to take risks almost all the time. I’m here to talk about our Ugandan girl so let me stick to her.
Racheal Mirembe, popularly known by her stage name Recho Ray is a 21-year-old rapper who burst on the scene in 2017 after winning the MTN Cypher UG Hip Hop awards. Her debut hit single ‘Bakunyige’ took Kampala by storm ruling the airwaves. Since then she hasn’t looked back.
Owing to her new found fame, the rapper has been ramping up her style cred one look at a time. She let go of the ‘tomboy’ personal style we knew her for and has since morphed into this sexy and super adventurous fashion girl. It’s possible that some people do not even remember what she looked like before this dramatic style overhaul. And to take this a notch higher, last week she wiped her Instagram feed clean to pave way for a new ‘her’.
Rey’s style choices are now never boring with a mix of trendy and ‘editorial worthy’ pieces. This new vibe, which you get off her Instagram, press appearances and music videos is all thanks to her stylist Trace De Lines (@tracedelines_official on Instagram).
