This is What You Missed at The Plus Size Fashion Week Fest
Voluptuous. Curvy. Thick. There are so many words used to describe plus size women and because it is 2019 women who are not the ultimate model body type are being accepted and it’s about time! From all the body postivity campaigns and moves towards inclusion, Doreen Faith of the Figure Bombshell plus size appreciation page also lent a hand to the cause.
On Friday, the first ever Plus Size Fashion Week Festival finally went down in Naguru and the all-day affair was truly a sight to see. Starting at around 11 am, there was a conference featuring strong women who were representative of individuals who were beyond body. The diverse and heavily respectable panel included ladies like Gloria Haguma, Jamilah Mayanja, Martha Kay, Fiona Kemi and the face of the event, Cate Ayellah. You might remember these names from the #IamBeyondBody campaign we talked about recently.
After the interactive chat, where people got to talk about their experiences as plus size ladies and the impact of self esteem to the progression of women, Guests were led out to a patio full of stalls. So much jewelry lined the place, as well as beauty brands and lots more.
On one side a group of models was seen chatting and laughing as stylists from Hair by Zziwa attached humongous hair pieces onto the ladies’s heads, as further down a group from Makeup by Olga led by Olga herself, set up the makeup booth.
Come nightfall, the conference room had morphed into a runway with a line of potted greenery down the middle of the room. As the full figured models in bright 80’s makeup strutted down the runway, the crowd went wild. The first collection was Mshona, then Avaan, Ubwiza and lastly Elvira Lee Couture.
