Hamid Ibrahim, a proud Ugandan and co-founder of Kugali Media, dazzled in a vibrant kikoyi ensemble by Veryldesigns at the highly anticipated Iwaju premiere in London. This moment marked the culmination of years of hard work and dedication for Ibrahim and his team, with Ibrahim himself credited as the production designer on the project. “Iwájú” is an original animated series set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, portraying the exciting coming-of-age journey of Tola, a young girl from a wealthy island, and her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert, as they navigate the secrets and dangers of their contrasting worlds.

Kugali filmmakers, including director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, production designer Hamid Ibrahim, and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku, invite viewers on a unique journey into the world of “Iwájú,” teeming with distinct visual elements and technological marvels inspired by the essence of Lagos. Produced by Disney Animation’s Christina Chen, with a screenplay by Adeola and Halima Hudson, “Iwájú” features the voices of Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and Weruche Opia. With the series poised to premiere on Disney Plus, Ibrahim and his team encourage audiences to prioritize experiencing “IWÁJÚ” with their families, highlighting its significance as a representation of African creativity and talent.

“This is our story,” Ibrahim declared, “and it’s time for the world to see what we’re capable of. ‘IWÁJÚ’ is just the beginning of what African storytellers can achieve.”
