Rebecca Kaweesi, a pastor and psychologist, and Benjamin Nduga, a surveyor and valuer, met in high school, little did they know that they were destined to be together, forever! The couple held their Kwanjula in Bulenga Kikaya at Rebecca’s parents’ home last weekend. They are set to tie to the knot next month.
Their story
We met in high school at Mengo Senior School. We were in the same class, but different streams, so we never got to meet and interact until we got to S3 when we ended up in the same stream. We became really good friends, a relationship which went on all the way to S6. When we joined University, we lost touch because we ended up in different universities. I think I missed him so much because I tried looking for him.
I tried Facebook, but couldn’t find him there. Apparently, he was using different names on social media. One day, I chanced upon an OB at my hostel, who was attending the same university as him. I immediately reached out and asked for his contact which he gladly shared. We rekindled our friendship, and kept it going until after graduation when we started dating.
We got engaged in 2017. My big sister came in and said ” You guys have been together for so long. I want you guys to take this relationship to another level.” Our response was “Why not?” It was kind of weird but we went on and did the ‘Kukyala’ visit.
Planning the Kwanjula
Planning the wedding was not really challenging because my big sister Agnes took charge of everything. She knew who would do what, where to go, and all this kind of things. I had a few friends who suggested the venue for the reception I went to see it and I loved it. I fell in love with the place because of its serene environment. Everything began falling into place. For some reason, God brought finances from the East, West, North and everywhere, our budgets were all covered.
Well, my makeup artist is the best in her field and, she happens to be my big sister. She owns and runs Makeup by Agy. My experience working with her was a real dream. I didn’t have to tell her what to do with my face because she knew exactly what to do. My designer, who was Abbas Kaijuka of Kai’s Divo Collection, did everything for me. He’s very good. I must admit I was a very demanding bride when it came to my outfits. I kept changing my mind every other day. But, he was very very patient with me. He would suggest even better designs every time I changed my mind. I was really really impressed. He made the whole experience memorable as well!
