Florence Kasumba Named Woman of the Year in Germany

She plays a commissioner in the crime scene, in Mamma Mia! “-Musically a disco queen and in “Black Panther” a warrior. Can anyone be more versatile than GLAMOUR Women of the Year award winner Florence Kasumba? The actress, who was awarded an ‘Inspirational Actress’ by Glamour, says of her career: “I always had multiple options.” And a little bit of luck too.

In the interview Kasumba talks Hollywood, inspiration and unwavering optimism. Here are some excerpts:

GLAMOUR: We are very happy that you are on board for the first Women of the Year Award. We are even more pleased to be able to award you with the “Inspirational Actress” award. What inspires you – every day in your everyday life and also in your job?

Florence Kasumba: It’s easy: exchanging ideas with people! I always get into conversation, and now I know a lot of people, because the paths cross again and again. I am inspired by other people and conversations with them.

But inspiration doesn’t just happen in a conversation: for example, I saw the musical “Hamilton” a few days ago. This cast is bombastic, and I celebrate their success – but I also know that if I had sat in the theater as a kid and watched this show, I would have taken the same path that I have taken so far. After all, I have seen people and talents who inspire me.
