Female Artists Dine with US Embassy

By  |

The US Mission in Uganda has had a series of activities under their Arts Envoy Program and if you have followed the recent trends, you may have seen some of the activities that took place on the tag #ArtsEnvoyUg2018. We have learnt that one of the activities was a luncheon with women in the arts industry. The US Mission in Uganda invited a few top and upcoming Ugandan female artists and creatives to a luncheon at Fang Fang restaurant in Kampala.

We are told that the luncheon was exclusive to women only. Most of them being representatives from the Cultural office at the American Embassy, New York based rappers Toni Blackman, AtLas and Sincerity from the collective Rhyme Like a Girl,  songstress Rema Namakula, Soul singer Sandra Nankoma, rapper MC Yallah, Communications specialist and photographer Florence K. Kyohangirwe, Joshan from Breakdance Project Uganda and Evelyn from the Ebonies.

The purpose of the Embassy was to create a safe space for them to share experiences and get advice from each other on life in the spotlight. The embassy also hopes that female artists can work together more and not against each other and, that Ugandan artists can learn from female artists in other countries. Some of the artists will be recording music together as well and we look forward to hearing it.

The Arts Envoy 2018 program was designed by the US Mission in Uganda in partnership with Breakdance Project Uganda to skill artists to help them advance in their careers. It included two concerts, several workshops and an Art Forum on copyright and how to earn from your art as seen on the program’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/artsenvoyuganda2018/
