Fashion Revolution Uganda is Here: Here’s What We Know So Far

By  |

The recently revived Fashion Revolution Uganda, an event designed to showcase Uganda’s sustainably-minded designers and makers, is here. Come along for some shopping, entertainment and learning experiences. Come along to connect and meet other like-minded creatives. A number of events and workshops are slated to hold from 19-24th April, which is next week. Here’s what we know so far

About the event

Fashion Revolution week happens every year in the week surrounding the 24th of April. This date is the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse.

Rana Plaza, a building in Bangladesh, housed a number of garment factories, employing around 5,000 people. The people in this building were manufacturing clothing for many of the biggest global fashion brands. More than 1,100 people died in the collapse and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. The victims were mostly young women.

This year’s theme

This year, as we mark 8 years since the tragedy, Fashion Revolution Week will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Our campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions. This event is organised by Fashion Revolution Uganda and IGC Fashion in Partnership with MoTIV Uganda, Fashion Africa Now and Goethe-Zentrum.
