Elizabeth and Umal Got Together at a Friend’s Wedding!
Bride: Kasula Elizabeth, a hotelier
Groom: Kawooya Umal, a Personal Assistant to a prominent lawyer
We met in 2019, at a friend’s wedding. Umal was among the groomsmen and I was among the bridesmaids. We actually met at church during the photo session, and easily connected. The photo second session was done in Munyonyo and it’s then that we became close. We chatted a lot, mostly about the bible.
During the reception, as every one wondered what to do with themselves, because many of us weren’t good at dancing, he calmed things down for me. At some point I was pushed to the front to dance, and I remember him insisting that we dance together. Remember, I’m the worst dancer ever! I accepted to dance with him but on condition that he wouldn’t make me over dance.
As we were leaving, his phone blacked out.
“Liz, I’d like to have your number but my phone has blacked out,” he cried.
“Okay, I’ll write it on a piece of paper,” I replied.
“No,” he suggested. “Save mine, but please call me tomorrow after church at like 2 pm.
I called him like that I had promised. This sparked off endless calls we began to have every other day. I’d would also invite him to my church, and he did the same. One day, he asked if I was in a relationship. I said No, so he asked to be my boyfriend. My response was,”let’s try it out and see if it works.” Indeed, it worked out.
He later proposed to me, and I gladly said yes. We held our ‘Kukyala’ on 9th January, 2021, and our wedding is slated to hold on 24th April, 2021.
Engagement
Umal prepared a surprised birthday party for me, which climaxed with him popping the question in front of my siblings and friends.
One of my sisters asked me to dress because she was taking me out for lunch as my birthday present. I did as she had asked and we left. Surprisingly, upon arrival at the venue, I stumbled upon my friends also arriving for the same party. “They are your friends, not so?” she asked me. I said yes, and we proceeded to enter. As we strutted in, I realized that my whole family and more of my friends were present. I wondered what was going on because I had left all my other sisters at home. I really wanted to shed tears of joy but I had promised them that I would never show them my tears. I was in shock but kept calm. We had a few speeches and cut the cake and then as I was serving the cake, my baby sister intimated to me that someone was calling me. On turning behind, Umal was right there down on his knee with a ring in his hands. He said a few words and yahh I had to say a yes because we really love each other and we both know it.
