Dyna Vence Revives the Peter Pan Collar as She Kicks off Birthday Week in Sandton

By  |

It’s Dyna Vence’s birthday this week, and the ace couturier is in Sandton to celebrate. She has, this morning, taken to her Instagram to share some photos of her having a much-needed break. But, what caught our attention, obviously, was her outfit!

The designer, who has always confessed to having an insatiable love for the color black, revived a trend we all wore and loved a decade ago – the Peter Pan collar. Named after the collar worn by Maude Adam in her classic 1905 performance as the lead role in J.M. Barrie’s novel, this collar is shaped to fit the neckline – it is flat and lies upon the torso with soft, curved corners. The collar is a fixture on children’s clothing but is a trend that was a hit on runways (and in closets) about 10 years ago.

With Dyna Vence leading the pack, it is safe to say that the trend is back. This time, however, expect to see the collar not only on shirts and blouses, but also dresses, jackets, and even coats. Also, expect to see statement detailing and embroidery just like Dyna Vence did here.

For her look, the designer added puffy sleeves with sequin detailing adding a much-needed shimmer. She paired the look with wide-legged pants cinched up her waist.

What a way to kick off your birthday week! Happy birthday wishes to you Dyna Vence.

Are you wearing the Peter Pan collar again?
