Design brand to know: HERS UG

HERS UG, located at MM plaza on Luwum Street, Kampala, is a fashion brand managed and owned by two cousins. According to their Instagram profile they “create, redesign and customize clothes all made in Uganda”. The brand has managed to build a strong customer base thanks to social media. Their clientele includes huge social media influencers such as Bettinah Tianah.

But, how do they manage to make ‘Instagram worthy’ clothes? The two cousins who prefer not to have their names and identities out in the press say that they’re flexible as they execute customer requests to satisfy their fashion desires.

“Plus we are young with new and fresh ideas on the market,” they add.

Surprisingly the ‘HERS UG idea was birthed out of a door handle. The door handle purchased from Aristoc bookshop by one of the cousins had ‘HERS’ emblazoned on it and had been fixed on the door in her room. Because they loved fashion, the word ignited a great idea. After quitting their white collar jobs in 2017, they decided to pursue a career in fashion with the brand name ‘Hers UG’.

The Hers UG woman is young, classy and vibrant just like their brand ambassador TV star Bettinah Tianah. Their goal is to export their clothes far beyond the borders of Uganda and probably have stores in major fashion capitals.
