Couple: Mukasa Calvin Kiyini, proprietor of 24Films and 42Reels, and Joan Tumusiime, Administrator and proprietor of J Essence
How They Met:
Calvin and Joan’s love story began the way many of the sweetest ones do, through family. The two were introduced through Joan’s sister’s husband, and what started as a simple family connection soon grew into something neither of them could have predicted.

The Proposal:
For Calvin, the proposal had to be more than just a moment, it had to mean something. “I wanted the proposal to be meaningful and personal to us,” he shares. “I planned it with the help of her sister, my best man, and our friends at Catalina Events. I had to make sure everything came together without Joan suspecting anything, which was probably the hardest part!” he laughs. “When the moment finally came, I was excited, nervous, and just grateful that I was about to ask the woman I love to spend the rest of her life with me.”

Joan, on the other hand, prides herself on being notoriously hard to surprise but Calvin managed to pull it off. “I honestly did not suspect a thing, which is truly remarkable because I am usually very hard to surprise,” she admits. “Though I had a little feeling something was happening, I never thought I was actually going to be proposed to. When it happened, I was completely surprised, emotional, and extremely excited. It was such a beautiful and overwhelming moment definitely one of those I will never forget.”

Planning the Traditional Wedding:
Like most couples will tell you, planning a traditional wedding is exciting, but it doesn’t come without its fair share of pressure. “Planning the traditional wedding was exciting, but I won’t lie, it came with its fair share of pressure and stress,” Calvin says with a laugh. “There were so many details to think about, from coordinating both families to choosing the right service providers, and making sure we honoured the traditions while still making the day feel like us.”

Through it all, the couple leaned on their community. “I will just say this, glory to God, because what an experience!” Calvin reflects. “We did have people supporting us, especially our family and friends, who were very much involved in making the day possible. It was definitely a team effort, and looking back, we are so grateful for everyone who played a part.” For couples planning their own big day, Calvin has one piece of advice: “If you are in a position to get an event planner, please do so, for your own sanity. For us, Kit Events really did a very tremendous job, and we will always be grateful to him.”

Décor:
When it came to décor, Calvin knew exactly where to start, with what his wife loves. “My wife loves sage green and everything nude,” he explains, “so based off that, Aclassicevents decided to create something that felt elegant, warm, romantic, and timeless.” The brief was simple: let the details speak softly. “We wanted the décor to feel beautiful but also simple, because less is more, so Amon of Aclassics added a touch of florals just to give the theme a ‘Garden of Eden’ feel. Honestly, everything felt cohesive, and it turned out better than we expected.”
