Blu*3, the iconic Ugandan girl group consisting of Cindy Sanyu, Lilian Mbabazi, and Jackie Chandiru, took center stage in a new episode of Tusker Malt Conversessions, where they reflected on their time together, their split, and their most popular group and solo hits.
Cindy on Leaving the Group
Cindy was candid about her exit from Blu*3, revealing her emotions at the time.
“They told me that the brand Blu*3 was specifically paying for my career to go down. I was jealous, period. Why is everybody else moving forward, yet they can’t see that I have a problem? So, I was jealous.”
She also acknowledged the friction between the members, stating:
“We couldn’t stand each other equally. But as long as we are still alive and God has given us life, we are always going to be Blu*3. Coming back together to perform was the first step.”

Jackie and Lilian on Their Relationships
Jackie and Lilian also shared their experiences and feelings about their time in the group.
Jackie noted:
“Cindy and I, we have a different kind of relationship, so I won’t say I hate her. Maybe I’ll say she doesn’t keep time.”
For Lilian, the issue was also about punctuality:
“It has to be timekeeping.”
Reflecting on Cindy’s departure, Jackie admitted:
“When Cindy left the group, I became scared. That’s the truth. I was so used to having backup on stage—not just dancers, but vocal backup. If I was stressed while singing, I could signal Cindy or Lilian, and they would cover me. That’s the part I regret.”
How the Breakup Happened
The trio described their split as something that happened organically, almost without their realization.
“When we broke up, it was not so harsh on my side. For me and her, we were like, ‘It’s not happening.’ But for all of us, it just happened.”
Jackie shared a moment that highlighted the division:
“We were at this club called Rouge, and we were both in the VIP section, not talking. Just three months before, we were talking. But at that moment, it felt like, ‘No, I’m not going to say hi to them,’ and they were thinking the same about me.”
Looking Back and Moving Forward
Lilian explained how she chooses to approach the past:
“Looking back is not a good thing. Even the Bible tells us that Lot’s wife looked back and turned into salt. Instead, I focus on what’s better now—peace, kindness, communication.”
Jackie acknowledged that their young age and lack of understanding contributed to their struggles:
“At that time, we loved Blu*3 so much that we didn’t understand our different perspectives. That’s what kept us close-minded in terms of understanding each other.”
Reunion and Future Performances
Cindy expressed hope for more performances together:
“I want it to keep going. When we did it last year, we didn’t know how well it would go. We thought it would just be a show, a couple of songs, and that’s it. But the more audiences see us, the more they love us and demand Blu*3.”
