Angelique Kidjo Wins “Best World Music” Grammy In Elaborate Mary Jane Marcasiano Costume

Iconic!

Legendary singer, songwriter and actress Angélique Kidjo on Sunday took home the ‘Best World Music’ Grammy award for her album ‘Celia’. She did it dressed to the nines in a Mary Jane Marcasiano costume and beautiful necklace “by a Beninese young girl from Parakou”

She was in the category along with Nigeria’s Burna Boy, and used the chance to dedicate the win to him, “This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music.”

She also lauded the music from Africa that is finally getting a global stage, “The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm and the time has come.”

The part where she had her Grammy on her head though? Iconic!
