All The Beauty Notes I Took From The 2019 Met Gala

Lupita had a cut crease made up of three different shades of glitter!

The Met Gala is the ultimate fashion prom for the A-listers! This year’s theme for the gala was Camp: Notes On Fashion! Being the beauty enthusiast that I am, I sure did take my beauty notes from Hollywood’s finest. Here’s what I learned and loved from this fashion funfair!

Kim K’s Wet Look

Kim literally stepped out of the ocean on to the Met carpet. Her makeup and hair was an illusion of “wetness” .

Seamlessly done, her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic went in for dewy skin which he carefully highlighted to create the “wet ” look. He also gave her nude tones when it came to shadows and lips which worked perfectly with her nude coloured Mugler dress. For her hair, hairstylist Chris Appleton worked with her her wet hair, styled it and diffused it to create these wet waves.

MILEY AS HANNAH MONTANA

Miley kept things subtle as she channeled her former TV show character Hannah Montana wearing blonde bangs!

A soft pink lip, winged liner and blushed cheeks – less is more! Way to go Miley.

DRAMATIC LUPITA

The theme was “Camp:Notes on Fashion” and Lupita gave us a whole load of fashion notes to take! Nonetheless they were all worth it!

Her big afro that was adorned with gold combs was inspired by artist Lauren Kelly’s self portrait “Pickin” and the former queen of France, Marie Antoinette. Talk about history in fashion .

When it came to her makeup, Lupita had a cut crease that was made up of not one but three different shades of glitter. Can it get any more “campier” than that?

BARBIE KACEY

Kacey Musgrave’s was the ultimate doll with her barbie inspired beauty !

Pink lips, long wavy hair, chiseled face and great lashes – Kacey gave barbie a run for her money!

PRIYANKA’S VA-VA VOOM LOOK

Priyanka went big and spared nothing for her debut on met gala carpet Mrs. Jonas.

As any queen would, Chopra had her crown on! Her hair was styled into voluminous spirals and complimented with a towering crown.

Inspired by Mad Hatter, Chopra’s makeup had red and white accents to it. Her waterline was coloured white using a Marc Jacobs beauty fine liner and so were her lashes speckled with a Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet primer. For the lips, she went in for a wine coloured lip to compliment her look!

SWEET SALDANA !

Zoe Saldana was about the “sweet shine” for her beauty look!

Big hair, styled with purple shimmery flowers, Zoe was all about chic camp.

One thing is for sure, purple glitter eye shadow is sure going to be a major staple thanks to Zoe!

CIARA’S BIG’S BIG!

Ciara didn’t hold back, she went real big for the carpet – it was worth it.

Her voluminous hair was complimented with hair accessories that dropped down to look like earrings. For her makeup, she went in for a full blown smoky eye that had green tones to compliment her green gown !

ADWOAH ABOAH’S SUGAR SHINE

Adwoah was all sugary and spicey at the Met with her pink and gold shades everywhere!

She wore a golden headpiece and kept her makeup subtle while wearing lots of pink to represent feminity and friendship!

HADDISH’S FEDORA

Who knew you could rock a Fedora on the Met carpet! Takes notes because Tiffany’s here to show you how it’s done.

Wear it with confidence, wing your liner, smoke out your eyes, keep your skin dewy, your lips nude and your highlighter popping! And you’re fashion ready thanks to Haddish!

BLONDE JENNER

Kris Jenner went blonde to the Met! It was a good change from her usual brunette color .

She lightened things up with her blue sparkly eye shadow which was the ultimate glam for her look!

PIXIE BALAYAGE

One thing is for sure – Bella Hadid is the queen of pixies! She should wear one all the time!

Another interesting part about her beauty look is her how minimum her makeup is and yet she still looks gorgeous . Her eyebrows are not fully drawn out but cut to perfection and her foundation medium coverage . Even her contour and blush were subtle! Notes taken: less is more sometimes!

And that’s wraps up my favorite beauty looks from the Met Gala.

One major beauty lesson I have learned is to have a little bit of both “elaborateness” and “subtlety” in beauty . When you go big with hair , something about your makeup should be subtle to tone it down, and the reverse is true.

However there are some exceptions, like Lupita Ny’ongo’s look, she went “big” all the way. With that kind of choice, I think one would need some expertise in matching and mixing colours together in order to block them and not crash them against each other!

Until next time !

Truly,

Humura Ruth
