A Beginner’s Guide to Organic Beauty Brands
There has never been a better time to start following a natural beauty routine than in 2018. Thanks to the ever-growing demand of innovative organic brands, there are so many options to choose from. While the high supply of organic items is definitely a “good” problem, it can also be intimidating for those who have just started learning about going natural.
You might have already heard that our skin is the largest organ of the body. It absorbs 6% of everything we apply to our skin and directs it straight into your bloodstream. Studies show that most commercial beauty products contain highly toxic metals, which cause allergic and harmful side effects on humans. So, imagine how many products you apply to your skin on a daily basis. Chances are, hundreds of chemicals are moving straight into your bloodstream.
So, what is organic beauty?
All natural, vegan, cruelty-free – what’s the difference? Organic beauty products come from natural ingredients with a low percentage of artificial additives – most of which are safe to use. They must contain only organically produced elements without the use of synthetic chemicals such as antibiotics, pesticides, fertilizers, additives, etc. However, many beauty brands are claimed to be naturally made when they are actually loaded with harmful chemicals.
Cruelty-free products are not tested on animals. However, that doesn’t mean they are natural, organic or vegan. Whereas vegan makeup is made without any animal ingredients like honey or milk, it still doesn’t make it 100% natural, because vegan formulas may contain synthetic preservatives, such as parabens.
Making the Switch to Organic
If you have only just started on making the switch to organic, don’t try to replace your beauty items all at once. Otherwise, you will become overwhelmed. Instead, aim to replace old products with a safe brand, one at a time. The next time you run out of foundation or powder, make the effort to choose a new organic brand. As the beauty industry in Uganda continues to rise, be sure to look out for brands with the label “certified organic” to ensure authenticity.
With enough research and information, it is also important to look into the reputation of the brand. Be sure to see how users rate them and check out the company’s mission, values, and what their products contain. Choose brands that are dedicated to creating natural ingredients that will not only benefit the skin but the environment around you.
