8 Riveting Short Films on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Justice (SRHRJ) to Watch Now

By  |

Last Friday, we attended a screening of eight short films focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Justice (SRHRJ). This project, run by Docubox and Mema Afrika through the Simulizi Festival, was organized in partnership with Reach a Hand Uganda and SautiPlus Media Hub. The event took place at the International University of East Africa’s food court in Kansanga.

Eight filmmakers from across East Africa came together, engaging with experts, discussions, and updates related to SRHRJ. The outcome was eight compelling films, both fiction and documentary, that address the urgent, yet often overlooked, issues surrounding SRHRJ. Through powerful storytelling, these films aim to shift narratives, challenge social norms, provide critical information, and offer fresh perspectives for both community members and policymakers—ultimately fostering better decision-making.

Short films and videos can serve as useful conversation starters, especially for young people who may have shorter attention spans.

JIMBI (Fiction)

Produced by Talemwa Pius and directed by Ivan Tusabwe, Jimbi follows a timid man who looks away during a sexual assault. He soon develops a rapidly spreading, mysterious skin rash that threatens to transform him into a mythical creature known as Jimbi.
