Trend alert: Skater dresses and skirts

  • By Mercy Adrea

It’s not often that the fashion powers look to the ice rinks for inspiration (almost never), but when they do, its dela crème. Skater skirts/dresses have become a wardrobe must-have this fashion season, they are indispensable like a pair of trusty skinny jeans.

Just change the top and shoes and your ready to go. The trend is easy going, easy to put together. The dresses and skirts come in different fabrics with bold, vibrant and dull colours. The neon trend has made the skater skirts more adorable for its vibrancy and chicness.

Leather has been this season’s most sought after fabric, it gives an edge and punk look to an outfit, the skater dresses/skirts in this fabric do not disappoint as they give a panache rock look. With a crop top, gladiator sandals or heels and a statement necklace your edge look is done.

For those that want a more office look, keep the colours simple, a feminine classic blouse and lace embellished long sleeved shirts give the skirts a proper look. Blouse buttoned up to the neck with exaggerated ruffled details play up the look even further. Top it off with a skinny belt and pointed toe pumps or ankle boots and a blazer making you look more sophisticated.

For the students (wouldn’t leave you guys out) who are up and down those stairs running to the next lecture room, go with a more girly look. Ballet pumps or wedges will keep it simple yet making you look charming and adorable. Pair it off with a denim skirt or polka dot crop to and any vibrant colour of neon you would wish to have on that day, accessorize with loads of arm bracelets making it more girly.

If you’re not one to show off your legs, statement tights will do you just fine. Keeps your look warm, comfy, fun, vibrant looking like a hipster as you mix and match all things Skater.
