9 Hairstyles To Inspire You To Start Your Own Natural Hair Journey

Loving your kinky hair has never felt so cool!

Now more than ever women of color are embracing their natural kinky hair and we’re all for it. We’ve said goodbye to the heavily processed chemicals, the long hours of having your hair braided and did I mention sitting in that painfully hot hair dryer?

And it’s all for a good reason – embracing who we are! Loving our kinks, curls and gorgeous voluminous hair is part of the package that comes with being an African woman!

Still don’t think wearing your natural kinky hair is worth the hype? Here are some natural hairstyles to inspire you to start your own kinky hair journey!

THE TWISTOUT STYLE!

The twist-out hairstyle is a common one and is a relatively easier style to do compared to others. In order to achieve it, you need to have had your hair twisted first, and then when you untwist it, you’ll get the twist-out style!

To complement this style, Sandra added a flat twist at the front of her hair just to spice it up and possibly to avoid having her hair fall all over in to her face.

I like to think of it as an extra free hairstyle you get after having your hair undone! How awesome and rare is it, that undone hair can look and feel this good!

FRONT CORNROWS AND AFRO!

Natural hair is way easier to work with especially because of its volume!

For this style, Rowena just had the front of her head braided and left the rest of her hair out to create this gorgeous Afro at the back! Now that’s chic!

ANKARA STYLE FLAT TWISTS

Flat twists are very good protective hairstyles for natural hair, and they can last for about 4 to 5 weeks without requiring repair – that’s a good hair deal if you ask me!

Ankara styles is a master when it comes to the twists, they are tight enough and they form a spiral which is very creative and stylish at the same time.

TWISTS UP DO!

This style is one of my favourites to recreate – it’s bold chic to me.

Cornrows on the side and flat twists on the center of the head to create the up do.

It takes quite a short while to do and it protects the ends of the hair from! To make it even easier, all you need is water, hair food and a comb!

THE PULLED BACK AFRO

An afro is good to wear but pulling it back a bit with the help of a hair band makes it even more comfortable to wear. It also gives you a chance to show off your edges so why not pull it back a little!

For this simple look, use a hairband that’s in the exact color as your hair so that it becomes invisible.

TWISTS AND TWIST-OUTS

Like you would in fashion, you can also mix and match in hairstyling!

Mix your flat twists with twistouts to create a bold fun hair do.

JUICY TWISTS

If you love bouncy hair , these twists should be your go to !

They are easy to create.

CORNROWS

When it comes to African hair, it’s so hard to avoid cornrows.

This is one of the best protective hairstyles to try.

THE BIG PUFF

One of my favorite things about natural kinky hair is its amount of volume.

For the big puff, clean and moisturize your hair and then hold it up into a puff and then enjoy your God given volume!

And that’s a wrap for now!
