It is unclear how many Ugandans are on TikTok, but we all should agree that the Chinese video-sharing app is on its way to becoming the most popular social media platform in Uganda. The app, which was previously known as Douyin but later changed to TikTok, has gained immense popularity in Uganda since
its launch in 2016.
Many skeptics (including myself) did not think it would blow out, but thanks to a few gen-z content creators, we finally fell in love with the app, and are, sadly, nursing ‘TikTok addiction’. It is clear now that a new song will not hit the chats before blowing out on TikTok, and a trend will not be a trend if it hasn’t trended on TikTok.
Here is a list of the content creators we are to blame (literally) for the success of the App:
Angella Summer Namubiru
After reaching over 6 million followers on TikTok, Angella Summer Namubiru is the most followed Ugandan on the social media platform.
Angella Summer Namubiru is a Ugandan actress, model, media personality, content creator, and TikTok star, who is especially known for vlogs and TikToks through which she narrates her daily life in rural Uganda on her TikTok account. In her content she advocates for social issues like awareness on the health dangers of skin bleaching, equal rights for women and children, access to clean drinking water and protection of the environment. She is the co-founder of Blacare, an NGO and community defending the same causes.
Ghetto Kids
Triplet Ghetto Kids is an NGO in Uganda that creates fun dance videos with children on TikTok. The
amazing group dances in the semi-urban areas of Uganda makes it interesting for the viewers.
The Ghetto Kids –formerly Triplets Ghetto Kids – is a dance/music group founded in 2014 by Daouda Kavuma composed of children from the Katwe slums in Kampala, Uganda. They have appeared on major platforms across the world – featuring in French Montana’s “Unforgettable” video and performing at a World Cup 2022 event in Qatar and recently competed in ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ where they placed sixth.

influencer and brand ambassador.
Ivan Mukiiza

Professionally known as Ivo Official is a Ugandan Dancer, Choreographer, journalist, and Media
personality and one of the most popular figures on TikTok in Uganda through his dance and comic
Videos. If you want to know or spot the latest hit song, Ivo will be dancing to it before it hits the charts.
Vivian Gold Kaitesi
Username: @Goldviv
With a 4 million+ following, the actress is the only creator with a verified account on this list. She has
since moved to Nigeria thanks to her success on the platform. Her niche is music dance challenges,
and lifestyle, and she often will serve some risqué fashion inspiration.
Yasin Majid
Username: @Yashpoppy
Yasin Majid popularly known as Yash Poppy is a Ugandan comedian, TikToker, and Internet personality. He
gained popularity on TikTok as a comedian making videos of him in different characters in society with a
comic touch and spin on the characters and making various TikTok trends on the platform and now has over 1 million followers on the platform.
He joined TikTok in 2018 but started uploading in late 2019 around October. He gained his first viral video in 2020 where he played a comic character and has since gained recognition from major stars like
Tiwa Savage who earlier this year offered her a scholarship to study film.
Esther Aamito
Username: @Aamito
After starting out during lockdown, Aamito has amassed 800k+ followers who look to her for humor and comedy. The social media influencer has landed lots of endorsement deals thanks to her efforts (and infectious smile).
Betnah Kyomuhangi
Username: @Lord Elektra
The 22-year-old content creator began her TikTok journey during the 2020 lockdown and started with comic videos and lip-syncing to popular songs. She has since landed major endorsements with companies such as MTN Uganda and Club Beer and has gained over 400 thousand followers since she made her debut of the App.
