8 Tips to Repair Damaged Hair

By  |

Most times we forget that our hair is very fragile and we end up damaging it. Sadly, hair can be damaged relatively quickly, but bringing it back to good health can take some time.   Below are some 8 tips on how to get your hair back in shape.

Ø  LET YOUR HAIR RETURN TO NATURAL STATE

Many popular hair treatments strip the hair of its natural oils and damage the hair shaft. When you’re ready to restore your hair, it’ll be very difficult to do so unless you stop all chemical treatments and let your hair return to its natural state.

Ø  REGULAR CONDITIONING

Shampoo is designed to cleanse your hair, and conditioner to keep it hydrated and shiny. Every time you wash your hair, make sure you apply a conditioner so its retains its moisture and remains hydrated. The scalp produces natural oil (sebum) that protects the hair from drying out. When you wash your hair too often, you wash away this oil leaving your hair vulnerable. Therefore, washing your hair just a few times a week is recommended.

Ø  LIMIT THE USE OF HEAT

When you’re working towards restoring your hair to good health, using heat will take you a step backward. So give your hair a chance to air dry which will help it to heal successfully.

Ø  TRY HOMEMADE MASKS

These hair masks are very recommendable on your recovery journey because they are natural and organic. They help in the nourishment of the scalp and hair roots. These homemade hair masks are not only cheap but also very easy to make and use. Some of these hair masks include;

  • The nitrifying egg hair mask(an egg,1 cup of milk, half of a lemon,2 tablespoons of Olive oil).Blend these ingredients and apply gently to the hair. Cover with a plastic shower cap for about 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and finalize with an organic shampoo.
  • Banana hair mask;(1-2 overripe bananas,1 tablespoon of coconut oil,1 tablespoon of olive oil,1 tablespoon of honey).Blend these ingredients well and apply the smoothie into your hair and leave it for about 5 minutes. Rinse your hair with warm water and you need not shampoo because bananas smell sweet.

Ø  AVOID STRAINING HAIRSTYLES

Damaged hair is very fragile and will break off when anything strains it because it cannot withstand any pressure at this stage. Go in for very simple hairstyles that won’t require you to strain your hair or use strong chemicals to keep it neat.

Ø  REGULAR HAIR TRIMS

This may seem very hard if you’re trying to regrow your hair but it’s very advisable. This is because it will help you get rid of split ends and give your hair a new feel and make it look flawless.

Ø  PROTECT YOUR DAMAGED HAIR IN THE POOL AND UNDER THE SUN

If you’re a swimmer, always wear a swim cap in the pool because chlorine causes hair damage. If you do swim without a cap, wash the chlorine out right away with a gentle shampoo. After a long day in the sun due to an event, a hike or days at the beach, consider giving your hair a hydrating treatment to avoid additional hair damage.

Signs of sun damage to your hair can include dry hair with brittle or broken ends, faded hair color and weakened or thinning hair.

Ø  HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY HAIR

Choose a healthy lifestyle because just like the rest of your body, the hair is affected by what you eat or drink .Eat protein rich foods, vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products as these are good for the body as well as triggering hair growth. Salmon is also recommended as it is a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids which are really good for hair. Take very good care of your body generally and this will reflect in your hair results.
