Kampala Fashion Week
7 Fashion Insiders Name Their Favourite Collections From Kampala Fashion Week
Kampala Fashion Week came and went, and as the Spring Summer collections went down the runways, only a few designers really stood out with the fashionistas in the crowd. We spoke with a few of them to find out what they really thought and what they loved, and no one held back! Here’s a rundown of the favourite collections according to the stars and fashion influencers.
Lucy Smize (Influencer): I think Eguana was my favourite from the night; actually, Abbas (Kai’s Divo Collections) surprised me pleasantly, I hadn’t seen much of his work before, but I paid attention to the details, how he brought in the Vogue covers, it was really interesting. I just thought of different ideas for shoots, I can see he’s very edgy. Eguana was amazing, I was thinking, straight up buy, right off the runway. And because I like some masculine style, I could definitely see myself in one of those kimonos. I was actually more intrigued with the male looks rather than the female looks, last year he did a lot of female looks, and yet this time it’s mostly male and yet I loved it. So Eguana and Kai’s Divo collection.
Joram Muzira Job (Model Coach) : I liked Nina and Elijah. The one collection I’d pick off the runway, I’d say Kona, there were some nice pieces there, and then from Gloria it would be the head piece, the cage. The Vogue everywhere on the clothes was a great look from Abbas (Kai’s Divo)
Rebbeca Nanjego and Cate Ayellah (Fashion Bloggers): Gloria Wavamunno and Bold. I like how artistic Gloria was, she really exuded Temple, anyway her style is mad. then Bold in Africa was most wearable, I loved that. Plus Nina Mire, we aren’t used of the crotchet, so it was a great addition.
Nadia Matovu (Influencer): My favourite was Kai’s Divo, for the creativity. Most wearable, Eguana. Eguana is something I would literally wear every day. But fashion week is not supposed to be every day, so that’s how Kai’s Divo felt like it worked because it was that go big or go home moment. When his collection came, it was like, I woke up.
Solomon Tazibone (Stylist): My best were Nina Mirembe and Gloria.
Fiona Kemi (Vlogger): I really liked Eguana, with the tiger print, that black and white look, with the red, that was fire. I liked the fact that it was well finished, it was African but not… I loved that it looks legit ready to wear, like I’ll pick it off and wear it.
