Uganda is home to the second largest thrift market in Africa. It’s not the best thing to celebrate but the economy is bad. You can’t spend 2.8 million on fake Balemcyga sneakers when you can find original sneakers at thrift shops at much less. Besides all the hustle and commotion that goes on in almost all thrift markets and stores, it’s an experience worth trying.
Here are the tips
- BE OPEN MINDED
Before making your way to a thrift market or store, you need to know that you’re not going to find clothes in their best condition and the chances of you having to do some alterations on your clothes are in the sky.
- BUY THE RIGHT CLOTHES IN THE WRONG SEASON
The best time to shop for sweaters and hoodies is in the hot and sunny seasons. You will definitely find great and stylish pieces for a steal if you shop for the right clothes in the wrong season
- KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR
Make a list of exactly what you’re looking to buy in the market. However, remember to be open minded just in case you fail to find exactly what you wanted, then you can buy the second closest thing to what you were looking for.
- BARGAIN LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT
This is the golden tip. Remember that you’re thrift shopping. So don’t set your budget so high.
- BE SUPER CAREFUL
Check for stains, signs of fading, holes in pockets and any other such. And unless the damage can easily be fixed by a tailor, you’d better not buy it.
- KNOW WHEN TO SHOP
The best time to shop is undoubtedly the morning hours. The early birds get all the good stuff and the prices are often super low.
