Investing in yourself is one of the best return on investments you can have. You need to give to yourself before you can give to others. Here are five ways to invest in yourself, and why self-love is the only way to go in 2018.
1. Develop your skills
Improving your skills doesn’t always mean investing in higher education, though that’s surely an option, and perhaps a necessary one depending upon your career field. Investing in your knowledge and skills can take many forms. In addition, expanding your level of knowledge and skill isn’t limited to the business arena and doesn’t necessarily need to be formal. Even Beyonce has voice trainers and Gigi Hadid has a gym trainer.
2. Your Appearance
Yes, you will be judged at first. Even slay queens have mastered this. They’ll invest in good makeup, trending clothes and a great photographer for their perfect Instagram pictures. Going for an interview? Dress and look the part before stepping out. Assemble an outfit that will make someone trust you with their money.
3. Read more
Reading offers you the opportunity to learn. It doesn’t matter what it is you read. Reading helps us see the other side of the fence through other people’s minds, which could be similar to ours. If you are starting up or have a personal business, buy a book related to what you want. At the beginning of this year, I read Lily Singh‘s HOW TO BE A BAWSE and I don’t regret it. Her writing helped me value the little qualities we tend to overlook. If you have your eyes on inspiration, there are tons of books related to that.
4. Pray
I am a huge believer in God. He’s my superman. Most of us get strength, hope and encouragement from Him. Set aside a moment and talk to God. I have found Him faithful. Why worry when you can pray? Ask, thank and worship Him. Prayer is a great investment that can build your confidence in a matter of minutes.
5. Time
Have time for yourself. You always have time for your family, friends, work and more. How often do you have time for yourself? Treat yourself.
Investing in yourself truly makes a difference in your life, your well-being, and your ability to thrive and perform to the best of your ability.
