18 of South Africa’s Most Iconic Women and Men front the 3rd Installment of Thebe Magugu’s Heritage Capsule

The collection pays homage to the centuries old “Lobola” tradition, a precursor to marriage in South Africa

Thebe Magugu ( @thebemagugu ) has a new Heritage Collection which pays homage to the centuries old “Lobola” tradition, a precursor to marriage in South Africa, where the groom’s family traditionally offers cattle or money to the bride’s family. This collection, the third installment of his annual Heritage capsule, features a vibrant fusion of menswear and womenswear, adorned with illustrations depicting scenes from the “Lobola” customs.

Fronting this campaign are 18 South African leaders – from Professor Thuli Madonsela B.V.O to Dr. John Kani O.B.E – each of whom have spearheaded their respective fields with their talents, skills and minds – whether its in law, film, photography, literature, business, sports, culinary arts or art.

Magugu’s latest collection, exclusively featured by British Vogue, presents nine hourglass-shaped shirt dresses for women and collarless long-sleeved shirts for men. Vibrant illustrations adorn each garment, digitally printed onto crepe-back matte satin, exploring contrasting colors. Collaborations with local artists and brands enrich the collection’s narrative, while a diverse cast of influential South African figures fronts the campaign.
