The 4th Edition of The Mona Makeup Masterclass Was Such Vibe: Here’s What You Missed
The 4th installment of the Mona Makeup Masterclass was held on the 9th and 10th April, 2022 at Onomo Hotel. The class is Mona Umutoni, famously known as Mona Faces,’ way of giving back; sharing her knowledge and supporting other women to start their beauty businesses.
As students arrived at Onomo hotel, they were greeted with a curated Mona makeup toolkit to each of the students.
The students got to know each other over a light breakfast and some music. They then set up their toolkits at the work stations awaiting the session. Rachel Nalumu was the host of the day, came through with the vibes, hyping everyone up and introducing Mona to begin the session.
Using Rachel as a muse, Mona took the students through the process of putting on makeup, explaining the reasons for each step along the way. She also advised what products would be best, answering questions and telling stories as well.
The vibe in the class was opposite of the classrooms and seminars you’d be used to – with a glass of bubbly to sip and beautiful florals everywhere. Mona would also take time to check in with each student on how they were fairing, helping out where she could on their technique. There were also other artists from the Mona Studio helping out among the crowd the entire time.
Mona also called her sister Umuhoza up to do an eye makeup tutorial, seeing as that’s the kind of makeup she has been drawn to, remember this? She gave everyone some hacks on how to apply eyeliner with ease. The chill vibes run through lunch which consisted of a sprawling buffet with too many choices to settle for.
The afternoon session consisted of applying lashes and finishing touches, and went in depth on the questions, with makeup and business advice going around. Mona also shared her come up story, and students like Prim Nyonyozi shared some inspirational insights. The session closed off at 4pm, with time enough for everyone to prepare for the cocktail party later.
One of the students, Vivian Ninsiima, had this to say about the experience, “I was shocked that (Mona) gave us all the secrets of the beauty industry, as well as the opportunity to network with key industry players during the cocktail party. I also loved that we got first dibs on her makeup brush set and the starter makeup kit was a major plus!”
The cocktail party was an intimate affair, with gorgeous minimalist décor, lots of laughter and mingling. Everyone got to show off their face beat while receiving their certificates of completion. From makeup artists to everyday looking to improve their makeup game, there was something for everyone at this masterclass.
