What does your watch say about you?
It’s important to pick a watch that will stand the test of time. Although men’s style sensibilities may be different, there are plenty of things that’ll be universal. You want a sharp timepiece that’s made with high quality materials with a precise and accurate movement. You want something authentic, but accessible. And since your choice of timepiece says so much about who you are, you’ll want something that expresses character but fits with your lifestyle.
Style characteristics can roughly be grouped into four sensibilities: Classic, Modern, Vintage and Sporty. Where do you fall?
The Classic Gentleman
You look for elegant simplicity and timelessness in your personal style and in your surroundings. Your motto is most likely something like “everything has a time and a purpose”, and your belief is that they are rarely mixed. Your wardrobe is probably compartmentalized with clothes for work, clothes for downtime, and clothes for physical activities. You probably even own your own tux. Your perfect timepiece has a classic round face, with either a rich alligator strap or an elegantly designed metal bracelet. If you travel, you may want one with dual time zones.
The Mordern Man
You respect tradition, but also love the most current advances. You like versatility in your style and probably have a closet that consists of staples that can be dressed up or down. Your perfect timepiece is probably equipped with an automatic movement that doesn’t need to be manually wound, and either a date or a feature, such as a moon-phase indicator. Either a classic leather strap or a metal bracelet works, depending upon your level of activity.
The Sports Man
It’s in your nature to persistently compete throughout life, whether that means in sports or work. You like to stand out, and your love of color probably means that you have lots of it in your closet – and you always mix it right. Your perfect timepiece is a mix of ergonomic feel, symmetry, and precision, with just enough complications to make it interesting.
It goes without saying that your clothes paint a picture of who you are. You change your clothes every day (right?), but your watch, especially if you don’t have a collection of several to wear for various occasions, is one of the few items in your wardrobe that’s expected to work overtime. Make it count and pick the right one, and it’ll pay dividends for your personal style. The rest of the outfit is up to you.
