Vintage Glamour at the 4th Annual iKON Awards Launch Party

The real magic was in the details.

When the iKON Awards team sent out the memo saying “dress code: vintage glamour,” it seems every guest actually opened their email this time because people understood the assignment. And not just understood it… they served it.

The launch of the 4th Annual iKON Awards at Serena Hotel Kampala by Reach A Hand Uganda, Sauti Plus Media Hub & ATS (on production) was already big news on its own, with announcements about the 2026 ceremony, cross-border collaborations, and a new film fund. But honestly? Before anyone even stepped up to speak, the fashion had already spoken.

“Vintage glamour” usually means elegance inspired by the early to mid-20th-century soft sophistication, retro silhouettes, curated accessories. And that’s exactly what the room looked like.

The gents kept it clean but unmistakably old-school. Many showed up in classic retro suits, suspenders, checked patterns, or vintage coats. A good number topped their looks with oldies caps and hats, those timeless pieces that instantly transport you to another era. Some even brought the fun with afro wigs, like Cinema Blitz producer Kwezi Patrick.

Among my personal favourites were Usama Mukwaya and Humphrey Nabimanya, whose maroon suit with a white lapel and a touch of bling screamed “rich kid from the past.” And of course, as the founder, he had every right to stand out. Their colour palette was consistent and calm: beige, black, brown, and warm earthy tones. Shoes were simple polished loafers and classic vintage.

The ladies, as always, took things a notch higher. Some showed up in old-fashioned suits reinvented for the modern woman—structured, flattering, and chic. Others floated into the room in dresses with soft vintage romance: modest necklines, flowing hems, playful pleats, and fabrics that moved gracefully with every step.

The real magic, though, was in the details. Many wore delicate gloves: sheer, silky, and elegant. Hair scarves were tied perfectly around their natural hair. Hairstyles felt like love letters to the past: natural hair styled into classic 70s shapes, bold afros, intricate updos, and even a few fascinator moments that added that extra touch of classic vintage fashion.

Pearl jewellery crowned many of these looks, giving that subtle old Hollywood glow without trying too hard. Footwear was a balanced mix: some ladies chose stilettos, while others embraced loafers, platform heels, and classic flats that still fit the theme beautifully.

Among the standout looks, Kyasiimite Shantel completely stole the show for me with her platform heels and sophisticated hairstyle. And of course, I loved my outfit too.

Ugandans rarely stick to a theme this faithfully, and that’s why this event stood out. For once, the entire room looked coordinated, like a scene pulled straight out of a beautifully styled retro film set.

The production by ATS made every corner of the space picture-perfect, adding vintage props like old TVs, radios, and classic décor that completed the ambience.

SatisFashionUG Takeaway: Ugandans may not always follow theme instructions… but when they decide to, they deliver. We can’t wait to see what the theme for the main awards night brings.
