Tyla Reveals Her Top Makeup Tips and Skincare Regiment

By  |

For singer Tyla, a great makeup look starts by lighting a fragrant candle, saying a prayer, and conducting a quick sound bath. The singer’s beauty regimen isn’t merely about powders and blushes, you see; “This is my wellness-slash-skincare-slash-makeup-routine,” the South Africa native tells Vogue.

After tending to her spirit, the singer takes care of a “little friend” that she points to on her forehead. While she tackles the blemish with Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser, a Caudalie face mist, and Weleda Skin Food, the 22-year-old reveals the source of her secrets. “TikTok is the place I find all my skin care stuff,” she says.

Next, it’s time for eyebrows—and for this, Tyla uses a razor blade. “Usually, when I do my eyebrows, I use blades,” she says, yielding a Van Der Hagen razor. “I have to do my own eyebrows. I’ve had so many horror stories where people try to do my eyebrows and they made them thin, thin, thin—uh, uh. I don’t like thin eyebrows on me!” She admits to feeling “bougie” while she smoothes on her eye cream, but her lip balm is the drugstore variety— even if her personal pot of Vaseline is studded with bling.

“When I have to look presentable, this is what I do,” Tyla says, kicking off her makeup routine. As she gets the perfect shade of concealer by mixing formulations from Pat McGrath Labs and Too Faced, she has to hand it to herself: “My color-matching is not too bad.”

Her eyeliner look of the day is a subtle variation of a classic. “I love a liquid wing,” she says. “When I’m not doing too much, I like to use a brown [liner] because I feel like it’s not as harsh.” After getting a sun-kissed look with Charlotte Tilbury bronzer and Pat McGrath Labs’ rosy blush, it’s time to coat her lashes with her “favorite thing ever.” Swiping on L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara, Tyla confides: “I saw this one on TikTok going crazy and I snatched it up.”

She prefers neutrals, nudes, and browns when it comes to lip colors, but whatever the hue is, she seals it in with the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. From glossy lips to shimmering eyes, Tyla pops a touch of Fenty highlighter onto her lids. And speaking of shiny things: “Winning the first African performance Grammy; I couldn’t have asked for a better Grammy to win,” she says. “My parents are literally bragging about it still, to this day.”

As one of her finishing touches, the Grammy winner mixes body lotion and highlighter to create a light body shimmer, which she applies to her collarbones for an “everyday type glow.” With said glow intact, Tyla declares herself “good to go.” And after blowing a farewell kiss and shimmying her shoulders, off she goes.
