Elle South Africa is celebrating the resilience and beauty of the human body this month, and their first feature is on a fashion brand catering to plus-size women called Mobu by Melo that’s celebrating the beauty of the African woman.
According to Mamello, the founder of the brand, Mobu by Melo is created for “the kind of woman who waits for validation from no one. ” “The kind of woman that Africa, our motherland has been all these years: resilient, defiant, strong and so beautiful. The woman who gets what she wants no matter the adversity, the woman who knows herself thoroughly and is invincible to this world’s lies,” she says in an interview with Elle.
Melo shot her latest look book Seilatsatsi, in the streets of Daveyton. Her eKasi inspired look book is an ode to the locals of Daveyton and their love of the township, a nostalgic nod to her upbringing in the village.
Her advice to young women facing body issues is “You are so beautiful.”
