Mr. and Miss Universities East Africa Beauty pageant 2019 is beauty pageant with an aim of bringing together the best talents in fashion and modelling while promoting awareness about STIs (sexually transmitted Infections) in East African universities.

This pageant is held under the theme “Taking Strides in the Fight Against STIs Among the Youth”.

While speaking to Campus Bee, Milton Obote Mwila, the national coordinator of the project noted that due to irresponsible sexual practices among the youth, they are vulnerable to getting infected with STIs.

“The Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 30 years of age. There are 7,310,386 youth from the ages of 15–24 years of age living in Uganda. Due to irresponsible sexual practices among the youth, they are vulnerable to getting infected with STIs. Effects of STIs pose a threat not only to the future of the youth but to the general development of the country. We would like to provide a platform which will encourage open discussion, consequently annihilating stigma against the infected and the affected.”  Mwila said.

The winners of the pageant (King and Queen) will walk away with $1000 each at an event organized by Wardz Modeling World in partnership with IUEA. The official launch of the event will hold on 12th April 2019 at the IUEA 3stooges and the grand finale will take place on May 3 2019, in the 1600 seater-auditorium of IUEA, Kansanga.

Prior to the final event, all contestants will be taken to a boot camp where they will be trained extensively about STIs. During this period, different project proposals on how best they would contribute towards the fight against STIs will be reviewed.
