The 2024 Grammy Nominations: Which African Artists Were able to Secure One

Reflecting the world’s newfound love for Afrobeats and Amapiano

The 2024 Grammy nominations were just announced a few days ago, and let’s say they reflect the world’s newfound love for Afrobeats and Amapiano.  While no Ugandan artiste was able to secure a nomination, Africa is more represented than it was at the prestigious awards in 2023;

-Burna Boy secured an impressive four nominations His tracks like “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” vie for Best Melodic Rap Performance, while “I Told Them…” contends in the Best Global Music Album category. Additionally, “Alone” competes for Best Global Music Performance, and “City Boys” stakes a claim in the Best African Music Performance category.

Davido secured a total of three nominations; “FEEL” for Best Global Music Performance, “UNAVAILABLE” for Best African Performance, and “TIMELESS” for Best Global Album.

Under the Best African Music Performance category are: Asake ft. Olamide ‘Amapiano’, Ayra Starr ‘Rush’, Tyla ‘Water’, Davido ft. Musa Keys ‘Unavailable’, and Burna Boy ‘City Boys’. 

Fireboy was also nominated for contributions to the Jon Baptiste album, ‘World Music Radio’, which is nominated for Album of the Year. 

First time nominee, Ckay was nominated for his work on Janelle Monae’s ‘Age of Pleasure’, which is also contending for Album of the Year.
