Tesi Fashion School is Partnering with The British Council on Workshop: ‘How to celebrate, elevate and amplify the visibility of female designers in Uganda’
To kick off this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations and a lead-up to their annual graduation fashion show, Tesi Fashion School is partnering with the British Council on a workshop for their final year students set to hold on 3rd March, 2023.
The workshop, themed #EmbraceEquity, will navigate the possibilities of female designers in Uganda delving into the challenges in the business and also the solutions available. The students will dialogue with a team of facilitators spanning all the different facets of the business.
The conversation will be held at the British council.
Date: Friday, March 3rd (9 am to 2 pm)

Meet the Facilitators
Manuela Pacutho Mulondo
Manuela is a gender equality advocate, early childhood enthusiast, author, speaker, entrepreneur, Obama Foundation alumni, and MWF Alumni. She’s a branding and marketing expert, personal branding coach, and media personality.
Clare Asiimwe
Clare Asiimwe is a Ugandan fashion designer, and the founder and creative behind the Sew Bantu brand. SewBantu was birthed in 2018 with the vision of designing clothes for the everyday woman. Clare was awarded 1st prize, a Fashion internship at The (R)evolution Fashion Contest with Lady Bee an Italian fashion house in Rome. She is passionate about fashion, art, poetry, and experimenting with new ideas.
Yasmin K
Upon completion of her training at Tesi Fashion School, Yasmin Kalungi founded her brand Yasmin K. With Yasmin K, Yasmin merges inspiration from the past and present to create fashion that’s modern and timeless. She’s also passionate about using fashion to champion causes such as menstrual hygiene and youth unemployment.
Lillian Kyabaki
Lillian Kyabaki offers a fresh and innovative approach to fashion by providing cutting-edge designs evident in both her ready-to-wear and haute couture collections. She designs for the empowered and sophisticated woman. Before founding her eponymous brand, Lillian worked with industry icons like Brenda Nanyonjo and Sylvia Owori.
Fatumah Asha
When she joined the university, Fatumah Asha opted to do Fashion and Design, something her parents weren’t supportive of. She then spent her years at Makerere University’s design school fending for herself using the skills she was getting from class. It is then that she bought her first sewing machine, and immediately, the Fatumahasha brand was born.
Asha sparked the interest of fashion enthusiasts and media all over Kampala when she began putting her work on the red carpet in 2016. Ugandan celebrities such as Lydia Jazmine, Hellen Lukoma, and Natasha Sinayobye came in as her early supporters.
Since then, the Fatumahasha brand has grown to become one of the most sought-after womenswear brands in this part of the world. Asha’s aesthetic, which is high-impact glamour, is now a fixture at weddings, events, and in women’s closets. Each of her designs is a result of a long process of attention to detail and craftsmanship resulting in elegance that only she can produce.
Her work has appeared on runways in Canada, the USA, Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, and more. She presented her SS20 collection during the 2019 Uganda International Fashion Week which was held in Kampala.
Because of her work, she has received several accolades including; Designer of the year at the 2018 Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, Best Designer at the 2017 Uganda Entertainment Awards, and Designer of the year at the 2018 Pearl of Africa Fashion awards. Fatumah is the founder and proprietor of Tesi Fashion School.
