Dubbed Burkina, this collection by cape town based designer Lukhanyo Mdingi is a reflection of how people are devoted to the things they love, defined as an odyssey of craft, distilled to its purest form.
In a post introducing the collection, Lukhayo had this to say:
“It was a revealing experience
being in the presence of those within the CABES Textile community in Ouagadougou
– Burkina Faso. Craft has always been at the heart of the LM label; but being
in the presence of those behind the making allowed me to understand the honesty
& integrity within the provenance of it all.
I love design, I love the principles around it
and I’m in awe of the human ingenuity that is cemented within the values of it.
It’s been 25 years of holding onto a dream, steadily pruning and honouring the
foundation that had been set into stone since I was child.
Through time and experience I now believe that
using your personal gifts is the ultimate goal in maximising your potential in
this trajectory called, Life.
This season’s new collection, BURKINA, is a
poignant & personal love letter to those that have used their time, talent
and trust as a means of service to me and the LM label at large. It’s through
these connections where I’ve been able to shift the paradigm and use design
& entrepreneurship as a catalyst in moving through service.
The marriage of it all is incredibly testing,
however we’ve been held by the hands and supported by those that believe in our
potential and the intentions that are woven within who we are as a label.
I hope that within this new body of work – a
continuum of what we do, you feel and see the perennial spirit of community
& purpose.”
