Skin Needs Hydration? Here Are 5 Foolproof Ways To Get Supple Skin
Dry skin can really be the pits, even if you are someone who wears makeup a lot. They say makeup cannot cover up bad skin, and they are absolutely right. To battle dry skin, there are some simple hacks and products that could be of great help to restore moisture to your biggest organ.
1. Drink Water
You thought we were going to go into this without mentioning good old H2O? Yes it seems daunting to drink large amounts of water every single day, but if you want great skin, it begins within. Not only does water directly affect moisture levels in your skin, it also helps flush out toxins that could be preventing your skin (and whole body) from thriving. We all want to thrive, no? So bottoms up!
2. Humidifier/face steamer
This is a tiny machine that makes water into vapor, that you can place directly on your face to provide added moisture to your pretty face. The best way to use it is after cleansing in the evening, and then add hydration serums on top of that to seal in the good moisture you have added. Speaking of serums…
3. Hyaluronic Acid
The word “acid” in this might be daunting, but hyaluronic acid is nature’s gift to dry skin people! This is a clear slippery substance that is actually produced by your body and is found in the skin. It’s job is to retain and even attract moisture into your skin! The best part is there are products that have hyaluronic acid already, but if you’re not one to read the ingredients label, just buy it as an independent serum. Trust us, your skin will thank you.
4. Glycerin
If you aren’t sure about some of these other products, or are on a budget, how about you try Glycerin? It’s affordable and largely available in supermarkets and beauty shops countrywide. It is a humectant just like hyaluronic acid; a type of moisturizing agent that pulls water into the outer layer of your skin from deeper levels of your skin and the air. While glycerin is a major component in most moisturisers, it doesn’t hurt to use it on its own in addition. It helps with hydration of the outer layer of your skin, but in addition, can aid in speeding up wound healing as well as improving the skin barrier
5. Gentle cleanser
When it comes to cleaning up, we tend to go harsh. I’m talking grainy scrubs, wet wipes, and rough sponges. For your face at least, I’ll suggest you go gentle if your skin is dry. Use a face towel if you must use something to help get the grime off, but I would suggest taking it a step further and using a cream cleanser. Gel and foam cleansers are much better suited to our oily skin sisters, but cream cleanser is gentle and moisturises as you wash. Rinse with warm water and apply your serums while your skin is still damp, and you will e seeing an improvement in no time!
Note: if your skin is still persistently dry, flaky or irritated by anything here, please see a dermatologist for more
