Shocking: Selfies Actually Cause Wrinkles

By  |

At the Facial Aesthetic Conference and Exhibition held in London, dermatologists revealed that selfie-taking can result in more wrinkles.

“Those who take a lot of selfies and bloggers should worry,” said Dr Simon Zokaie, medical director or the Linia Skin Clinic, said. “Even the blue light we get from our screens can damage our skin.”

“I think there is a gap in the market for products which protect, because I know there are people who take lots of selfies and bloggers who come to me, and I have seen that there is damage and ageing taking place… It’s a different wavelength of radiation so sunscreen will not block it.”

This is not the first time our smartphones have failed us. They are also responsible for the dreaded ‘tech neck’ – caused by constantly looking down at screens – and for increased spots and blemishes from pressing bacteria-carrying phones against your face. These factors are all having damaging affect on our appearances little by little, every day.

“In my clinical observation, I can tell whether someone uses their right hand or left hand to hold their phone,”added Dr Zein Obagi. “You start to see dull, dirty-looking texture that you cannot identify on one side of the face.”

Thankfully, Dr Zoakie did say that companies are looking to fill this gap in the market.
