When you browse through Nina Mirembe’s instagram feed, it’s impossible to not marvel at the her enviable ‘bikini perfect’ body. The mother-of-one is the designer behind the sexy brand Nina Mire, which is popular for its crotchet work. In this chat with Satisfashion UG Beauty, Mirembe opens up about how she fell in love with wellness.
What’s your daily beauty routine?
I wake up, wash my face, apply a serum and top it up with a moisturizer. I work from home so I barely wear any other kind of makeup besides the above.
What’s your routine workout like schedule?
I begin my morning with a blood floor exercise to warm up my body for a busy day ahead. It could be yoga or some easy squats. They are really good for blood circulation.
When and how did you fall in love with wellness?
I started my wellness journey back in 2012 when I joined the Miss Uganda beauty contest and while in the boot camp we were not only taught about beauty but also health and fitness which go hand in hand.
You have no qualms flaunting your body on social media. How did you get this body confident?
Confidence is key right, but to achieve confidence you have to work for it. Every woman who looks after herself definitely flaunts their body their own way but again it comes with personality and mine is a bit loud haha too much self love.
What 3 products do you always have in your stash?
I never run out of raw shea butter. It’s my skin’s ride or die. It keeps my body moisturized and glowing. I buy mine from ANGIE ORGANICS UGANDA.
A Victoria’s Secret lip gloss and a sweet scented perfume DKNY or a Victoria’s secret body spray. I’m a sweet candy scent lover if you ask any of my friends that I share with often they will tell you haha that I smell edible.
Do you have a favorite beauty or makeup hack?
I’m not into make up much I’m a natural beauty most of the time so I wouldn’t really have much knowledge on that but I do have a beauty hack to share; if you get any swollen painful pimple on your face don’t ever press it. Just put ice cubes around it and sleep on it. Boom it’ll be good and gone the next morning.
What products give you the biggest confidence boost?
First things first, since I’m so horrible at makeup, a Fenty Beauty foundation is a real life saver. Basically it’s a two in one; foundation and powder. I apply it and off I go! Kudos to Rihanna because this one is a jackpot.
A sephora red cream lip stain (no 49), dude every girl asks me about it every time I wear it.
And lastly ( Innisfree Green tea intensive hydrating cream) so far the best facial moisturizer I have ever used.
What’s been your biggest beauty disaster?
That one time I lost a fake eyelash while riding on a motorcycle (boda boda)! No one had warned me about how this entire fake lash thing works. To make matters worse you cannot wash your face fully with water and that’s what I did unknowingly.
What’s the best piece of beauty/skincare advice you’ve ever been given, by who!
I guess I was so obsessed with growing my hair long or that big afro. I bought almost all the recommended products I laid eyes on. I don’t remember which person put me to stop on social media but I remember reading something like our hair is different, it grows at different paces. I let it be. I swear I listened now I use a few necessary products and my hair has transformed so healthy.
Has beauty been an empowering tool to you?
Absolutely! Speaking of working on my physical appearance, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done right for myself. I feel so good deep inside.
What does your self care routine consist of?
Staying hydrated. Working out. I try to eat all meals in time. I try not to eat late at nightI try to keep stress in check to avoid getting an early wrinkled face.I try to sleep in time and be able to catch that early morning beautiful sunrise.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of wellness?
Well, in the name of wellness I have attempted doing my regular exercises while I’m naked 🙂 Yes, it’s crazy but it’s so fun.
What beauty trend have you never been able to get on board with?
Overlining lips is something I don’t get. It has never attracted me.
