My Top beauty trends of 2016 – Clare Oparo

We invited beauty blogger Clare Oparo of Marcobash.com to share her top beauty trends of 2016.  And in her own words, she talks about the new Asian skincare products that everyone is swearing by now and the boom of beauty tech among others. Read on.

  1. Sustainability

We have seen the banning of micro beads and companies which have a great footprint in Africa like L’Oréal and Colgate-Palmolive commit to stop the use of the harmful ingredients. Yes to being more environmentally conscious!

  1. Multi masking.

We have Asian skincare to thank for this. A while ago, face masks were considered once a week treatments. Now, the skincare first trend inspired by Asian beauty has many women use at least one face-mask a day, with good reason. They are wonderful tools that help hydrate and soothe skin. My favorite are from Asian brand My Beauty Diary.

  1. Beauty tech.

From wearable tech like L’Oréal / La Roche Posay My UV Patch that reminds you to reapply sunscreen to virtual reality makeover app Modiface that has a conversational beauty advisor on Facebook Messenger to MAC Liptensity collection created by tetrachromat Maureen Seaburg, I’m so excited to see the direction beauty tech is taking.

  1. Male grooming.

I won’t forget the gents. Male grooming has gone up a notch this year with beard oils, moisturizing shave treatments and wonderfully formulated facial lotions that have me reaching for the men’s section without an iota of shame. Gift the men in your life with kits from the likes of Nivea, Phillips, Braun, Below the Belt and watch them enjoy the sensorial experience.
