Michael Kiwanuka was one of the A-listers that attended the 2021 Grammy Awards, which held last evening at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Carlifornia. Although the event was virtual, the British-Ugandan star, who was a nominee, was super dapper for the evening.
Outfitted in a black Emporio Armani suit, the singer took to his social platforms to thank the Italian brand for getting him ‘virtual red carpet ready’ for the event.
“Had to do my own red carpet at home for the #GRAMMYs tonight. Thank you@emporioarmani for the suit and making me feel like I’m there 🙌🏿,” he wrote.
Kiwanuka was up for the ‘Best Rock Album’ award for his self-titled third album ‘Kiwanuka’. The award, however, went to The New Abnormal by The Strokes. He has no complaints though. The album won Britain’s prestigious Mercury Prize last year. It was also described as one of the greatest albums of the decade by The Guardian.
“This is an album that explores what it means to be a human being today. It’s also more specifically and more directly about myself, and being an artist in these times. Looking back to when I was younger, I remember never feeling like I could fully connect with anyone I saw on the TV or heard on the radio. There were singers, actors that I loved but no one I ever saw myself in,” said the singer about the album’s inspiration.
