Just when the dust from the mini skirt is settling down, men’s shorts are getting steadily shorter. Do Ugandan men wear shorts to start with? Yes many of them wear cargo pants – those that go beyond the knees. They usually wear them to the beach and to the gym. The fashion forward ones wear shorts that are considerably short though. Well all this is about to change.
According to the Wall Street Journal, men’s shorts are getting a lot shorter (and more form-fitting), thus freeing their knees from the shackles of the long short. Those ones wall think are unflattering.
It’s true that men’s shorts have been long for way too long. Think back to the ’90s when rappers and skateboarders ushered in a new era of over-the-knee shorts that alternately made us cringe and stare because well, they really weren’t that flattering or cool.
Then, famous people started wearing them: from Leonardo DiCaprio to Lil Wayne, men everywhere were embracing the baggy short, much to our dismay.
Fortunately, the tide is beginning to turn, thanks in part to designers like Dolce & Gabbana, J. Crew and Banana Republic, who want to make men’s legs look good in shorts that are several inches above the knee.
The tide officially turned when Pharrell (he of the many Mountie hats) wore shorts to the 2014 Oscars, thus making it cool for men everywhere (or at least Pharrell fans) to wear shorts that show off their cute (if maybe knobby) knees.
Denzel might be the happiest recipient of this news but are you ready to embrace this?
