Maurice Kirya is one of those artists that never stop giving us what we deserve. I think fans of the soulful singer are not complaining after he announced a new album on the horizon dubbed “Beyond Myself.”
The video for the first song to drop, “Gimmie Light” was directed by
Franggy Yanez a Venezuelan photographer. It was shot on the beach and featured Maurice in different shots, on his own, belting his heart out toward the water. In it he sings about his subject being the best thing for him in that “when my heart is full of darkness, you gimmie light.”
Even from the album art we could see that this was going to be a deep one; the kind of matured wine type of music. Us fans have been excited to see where his head’s at with the music so this first installment “Gimmie Light” was the breath of fresh air we needed.
This is one of those songs that sounds like a Sunday morning. It is almost spiritual and yet he keeps it light. It is as devotional as it is mysterious. It leaves us to wonder: who is he speaking about in this song? I guess it’s up to us to make conclusions, or simply enjoy the music. The rest of the album officially drops on the 20th September, but keep an ear out, more music may be coming our way!
Here is the video, so that you can sway like we have been, all morning.
