Meet Victor and Maldrine, who met after a church prayer meeting.

I didn’t want to be in a situation-ship of assuming we were dating yet he hadn’t said a thing. You know how church boys can be with saying a general “I love you” to all the sisters. So I knew we loved each other but I wanted him to say it. So on 18th May 2018, the day we finished final exams at campus, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said YES. Then we started dating!

Meeting

We met at church on a Sunday after a prayer meeting and since he was one of the WhatsApp group administrators, he took my number to add it and then we kept talking but mostly about church related stuff and the Bible.

So, how do you then transition into lovers?

We kept on meeting at other functions at church like the camp, conferences, dinners … and we became good friends then prayer partners and we would share a lot about our personal and spiritual lives and in a way we connected so much. That’s when we realized we would be a perfect couple. I didn’t want to be in a situation-ship of assuming we were dating yet he hadn’t said a thing. The Engagement

Victor: I asked her friend to lie to her that it’s her sister’s birthday party and she was inviting her to attend. I then told her I was going for fellowship so we couldn’t attend together. Then I asked her sisters to ensure everything went well and I advised her on the dress to wear. When she arrived for the ‘birthday party’ we were waiting for her in the room at Kololo courts hotel and I played for her ‘Perfect by Ed Sheeran’ and ‘Will you marry me? by Jason Derulo’ on the piano and saxophone. Then I bent down on one knee and popped the question. She didn’t think twice, immediately said yes and gave me a warm tight hug.

Maldrine: We have a number of mutual friends. So one of them said she was preparing a birthday party for her sister-in-law and was inviting us. I told Victor about this party, but he declined to attend, saying that he had to play the piano for a fellowship somewhere. He however offered to help me choose a dress to the party. He chose a red one. He knows I love red so it was the perfect choice.

On the D-day, one of my sisters calls saying she wants us to meet at my Mom’s shop. I tell her that I have a birthday party to attend. She tells me that she’s going to watch Basket Mouth at Comedy Store. I tell her that I’m wearing no makeup, she gives me an offer. Apparently, she had paid someone to do her makeup, but she was a little late, so passed the opportunity over to me.

Still oblivious of what’s going on, I visit the makeup artist’s parlour (Saraphinah faces) for my face beat. I ask her to give me a simple face beat since it wasn’t my birthday. I couldn’t let myself look better than the birthday girl.

When I got to the venue, I called Anita (my friend) who led me up to the room where the part was meant to held at. When we got there, the lights were off with just deem disco lights on. Here I was excited that I was about to witness a magical event. I dashed in to join others who were waiting for the birthday girl to arrive.

I realized that the reverse could be the truth, when Linda asked me to stand in the middle of a heart shaped rose flower design, cameras were on me, the photographer was taking pictures so fast. That’s when I lost it and started crying. My sisters who had lied about going to comedy were present, the friends who I thought were out of town, my in laws were all there. I was speechless. And there he was by the piano playing ‘Perfect by Ed Sheeran’ and the saxophonist played ‘Will you marry me by Jason Derulo’ while my prince was on one knee. He said a lot of sweet words. Some I didn’t hear, then he popped the question. “Princess, will you marry me? And I said yes like ten times.

The music, decor were on point. Everything was so beautiful and that’s how he graduated from boyfriend to fiancé.
